BLONDE TOLEDO plays danceable rhythms from a plurality of backgrounds. Full of surprises, yet firmly based in Brill Building Pop, Colombian Cumbia, Yiddish Theatre, Post Bop Jazz, 60’s Rock, and whatever falls to hand.
The band is lead by Double Sax Goddess Connie Walkershaw, who has developed a unique style, more melodically based, rather than riff oriented.Acting as her comedic foil, bass player Jesse Walkershaw writes the half of Blonde Toledo’s material that has words.
Somehow his upside down worldview, and soap opera scenarios fits with the mix of musical ideas served up by Connie, latin percussionist Joe Chavez, art rock to hard rock drummer Rick Kennon, and the classic scorching yet beautiful twang of Guitarist Andy Charmatz.
RICHMOND UKULELE MAYHEM is led by local jazz performer Amy Ukena. RUM performs songs from the past 100 years, so you’re just as likely to hear a tune from Tin Pan Alley as you are to hear something from Cyndi Lauper or the Stones. RUM meets 2nd and 4th Sundays at Bridge.
