LIVEHUMAN Feat. LUKE SICK
San Francisco-based group LiveHuman has redefined their creative arsenal with the release of their explosive new double LP, WITH DA BLAST…, featuring veteran Bay Area MC Luke Sick. The album, dropped in December 2024 via Alimentary Music, bridges the shared sonic artillery of jazz and hip-hop, showcasing the group’s exceptional artistry and raw power.
The lead single, Make Contact, featuring Eddie K, sets the tone for this high-caliber project. Luke Sick and turntable maestro DJ Quest (Questosahn) bring decades of camaraderie and experience, having first joined forces in the mid-‘90s as members of Sacred Hoop and Bullet Proof Scratch Hamsters, respectively. With WITH DA BLAST…, LiveHuman and Luke Sick craft a sonic landscape that pays homage to hip-hop’s foundational elements—funk, jazz, sharp lyrical wit, and unparalleled turntable technique.
Tracks like Peep the Arson, Dive Up in It, and Dead in the End highlight their unrelenting commitment to the craft, while cuts like The Boot and Devil Paper show a broader scope, taking aim at competition and the industry itself. Luke Sick delivers razor-sharp lyrics in combat mode on tracks such as Mighty Sick, Ninth Level and Straight off the Roof.
While much of the album was recorded remotely, WITH DA BLAST… was conceptualized, mixed, and arranged at Reverse Techniques, DJ Quest’s studio in San Francisco’s Mission District—the same neighborhood where LiveHuman first originated. For the first time in their history, LiveHuman brings an MC into the fold on a studio recording, elevating their already dynamic sound to new heights.
Drummer Albert Mathias provides a thunderous foundation with his deep kicks and crisp snares, creating a powerful rhythm section that complements bassist Andrew Kushin’s low-end grooves and versatile instrumentation. DJ Quest, whose production and scratching skills are second to none, ties it all together with his signature creativity and precision.
The 17-track double LP will be available on black vinyl as well as a limited-edition silver vinyl release and in digital formats. With WITH DA BLAST…, LiveHuman delivers a bold culmination of decades of experience in hip-hop’s battle-hardened arenas, blending the underrated prowess of Luke Sick with the virtuosic improvisation of one of live hip-hop’s most inventive trios.
